An Ontological Approach to Sensor and Informational Data in Production Plants
Abstract: This article presents a research proposal for the unification of the Informational Artifacts Ontology (IAO) and the Semantic Sensor Networks Ontology (SSN) to broaden the semantic coverage of Informational Content Entities (ICEs) in industrial contexts, especially in production plants. The proposed unification aims to enable a coherent and integrated representation of informational and sensory data, offering a comprehensive ontological structure encompassing formal records and dynamic data from sensors and monitoring systems. By associating sensory data with relevant informational artifacts, this approach seeks to improve interoperability, data analysis capabilities, and the traceability of industrial processes. The model will be evaluated using real industrial data, focusing on the oil and gas domain.
